ANTHONY COTTERELL - A Newspaper Man in Service Harness
Oh, Its Nice to be in the Army!
Published 1941
Anthony tried to exorcise his personality from this book, and for the most part succeeded. He began writing it before What! No Morning Tea? was published, and his prime motivation - apart from money (a conscript's wages were pitifully small) was to set out his credentials as a thinker on Army matters.

He sets out his stall in the very first paragraph: "In this book we are out to consider what is done for soldiers in the way of making them comfortable and happy [...] Millions of men [have been] jerked away from everything and everyone they ever had and lived for, jerked away and marched into another world"

The book went through at least two impressions, and was moderately successful - it was overtaken by the huge success of
What! No Morning Tea? which came out in the same year.
